Winter Freeze

2 min read
Not much going on here, life is still....meh....for me.  Any cons I had been planning to attend are now in the 'tentative' category as unfortunately I'm now officially in starvation mode funding wise. I wish I could say it's from lack of trying, but, no, more like I have been trying and burning my candle on both ends way too long...and what for, hah, I wish I knew anymore.

But, I suppose I subscribe to what Winston Churchill said...."If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." I'd say I'm at the latter end of that statement. See also "If you're going through hell, keep going."

Part II of Rebel Forces is entering penciling as soon as I gather a few more references. Considering how dead the rest of my life has been, perhaps it'll go smoother than the last pages I did will, hopefully. This time I have around three times as many pages to do, alongside I'm experimenting with the best ways to deliver this content onto mobile and tablet devices, and the eternal struggle with the webpage and making tweaks to make sure the user experience is as well as I can get it to be (Wordpress is an awkward beast).

Days need to be 48 hours long. Sometimes I think it's the only way I'm going to keep up with all of this at a decent speed...be back...eventually, I guess.

So, yeah, I'm not dead, just, been constantly experiencing more of the same life taking a smack at me in general, life on the "cannot find constant work" field is not really worth talking about, so yeah....

BUT.

9/21 (AKA, um, tomorrow???)- the first pages of my webcomic will be released, after many hours of slogging through it and many moments where I wondered what the hell I was fighting forrrr (/mmx4 zero)!

Go check it out www.rebelforcescomic.com, and subscribe to the twitter feed/facebook page/my tumblr for further updates, I cannot guarantee I will constantly remember about here. So many social feeds to keep up with, so little time. @_@

Save major money issues like getting hit by a bus, I will be at the following cons and events to mingle/find work/whatever- if you are in the areas and want to hang, give me a ring!

- Boston Festival of Indie Games- Sept 22nd, Cambridge,MA
- MICE (Massachusetts Independent Comic Expo)- Sept 29th, Cambridge, MA
- New York Comic Con, Oct 12-14th, New York, NY (Friday-Sat-part of Sun)
- Paint and Pixel Festival, Oct 20th, Northampton, MA (tentative, dependent on how broke post NYCC I am)

I also am in the process of obtaining tickets for next year's Emerald City Comic Con, but it's wayyyy too early to tell about if I will be absolutely able to make it to Seattle.

Now that I'm in the "down" period of developing for the next bit of comic, I can take some time to work on other things as well. Stay tuned, I guess....

FINALLY.

With the conclusion of Boston Comic Con, all my scheduled cons at the moment are over. I'll post other events I'm on as needed, I guess, but, I think I'm done for the next month or two at least as the range of cons I can go to is now generally between NYC and Boston until I can find stable work.

Work on Rebel Forces continues, roughly 50% done with the first batch. I might post a preview over on www.rebelforcescomic.com …;, maybe here,  within the next day or two as I passed out promotional cards at Boston Comic Con...yeah.

What else?

Uh, I won a  category in a game design competition which was at Microsoft Cambridge by Mass DiGi. Me and a friend designed a concept which depending on how we can acquire programmers/tech nonsense may get developed into a game. Stay tuned on that I guess?

I also have begun to gain some contacts in the Boston area (yay) in the gaming/comics blah the blah,  and may have an internship lined up....it's unpaid though, so looking for paid work also continues (meh). Better than nothing. I guess. I am new to the Boston area so I'm mostly getting these contacts by attending a bunch of exhausting networking events, and I still have that "out-of-towner" smell on me? (lol)

Can't say what else is up. Everything has been flipped topsy turvy since I arrived in Boston compared to life in Spokane. But that's what I wanted, I guess.....

FINALLY, after so long, I finally got the funds to order new parts for my dead PC. Completely overhauling it to the latest gen of Intel processors (well, Sandy Bridge, and i5 so I can wait a bit until Ivy Bridge is released/matures and I won't completely cry). By next month provided none of the parts are DOA/have compatibility issues with each other or the case I'm gutting my old parts out of it, I will be back in the modern computer age...YAY.

Which is good, because work on my comic using my old 5 year old Mac Book Pro is a bit of a pain when you're trying to ink 400 dpi files, and CS3 is the latest version of Adobe I can use without it throwing a hissy fit. But work slowly comes along. Expect a promo image to appear by the end of the month, as I decided to try my hardest to get an image done for Blue Line Pro's line of "Creator Trading Cards". Yup. Going full kabang with Rebel Forces, not just me going to cons, but cards to promote with? SUREEEEE~

Yup, hard at work and going to be so as I prepare for con season/try to organize myself to move.....

BACK TO WORK!~EXCELSIORRRRR~~~~!

Hey ya'll.

My main computer is still broken, sorry  that I continue to be slow because of that. I'm very picky on what I put up on this page to show, if you want to see my ramblings and bad doodles, go look at my Tumblr at roguedrawz.tumblr.com

Also!

My con schedule for the next few months has finally been somewhat structurally finalized, all I have to do is buy the tickets for it....

March 30th-April 1st: Emerald City Comiccon- Seattle, WA.
Unfortunately, this will probably be my last convention on the West Coast for awhile. I hope to have the prologue issue of my comic available to see at this con, but, I will not have an Artist's Alley table here- you'll have to find me in the crowd, at the bar, Cheesecake Factory, Gameworks, whatever, to see- can't afford the cost of their AA, unfortunately. Hope to see people for a last huzzah, see some artists I've seen from previous years at ECCC, etc.

April 6th and 7th: PAX East- Boston, MA
As I said in an earlier journal, I'm moving to Boston for job hunting/career/personal reasons.  However, 3 day passes have sold out, so for cost related purpose,  I am probably going to only attend Friday+Saturday, and skip out on Sunday which, as I discovered last year, not much happened during.

April 8th: Anime Boston, Boston, MA
Well, actually, this one is up in the air, since I have Sunday off, but, it depends on how tired I am after PAX East. I'm actually displeased I can't attend this one fully, whoever the hell decided to put this con the same weekend as effin PAX was stupid.

April 21-22nd: Boston Comic Con, Boston, MA

Other events are up in the air, who knows, I might find a few things in NYC,  I have friends there, and it is only a skip and Chinatown/Greyhound bus away from Boston, there's always art things happening in that city.

Theoretically, between now and March, I plan to continue job hunting in both WA and MA (and all over the US, but I doubt I will find some magical company to swoop me off my feet and relocate me), and bury my head and truly work on my webcomic like I've been jabbering about since I graduated (yet life got in the stupid way). Obviously if all goes as I think it probably will, I will be in Boston by April.

Life goes on.  Still hoping for a change that actually makes sense, but, I guess I am slowly learning post graduation, that life is an adventure....a scary-as-balls adventure, but one nonetheless...
